It gives me great pride to be principal at GMMS. After attending GMJH in the mid 1980s, I graduated from South Lafourche High School in 1989, then Nicholls State University with degrees in Chemistry, Math Education and Educational Leadership. I never imagined that in 1994 I would get to teach alongside those icons of my junior high educational experience at GMJH. In 2015 I was appointed the 8th principal behind the names of Miller, Dantin, Adams, Bouvier, Rousse, Orgeron, Long, and now Melancon. Just like the strong Cajun heritages of those last names, so is the strength and resilience of the Golden Meadow community and school.
Today Golden Meadow Middle School has approximately 300 students. We offer a high-quality core education along with electives in art, music, computer coding, physical education, and career exploration. GMMS also offers enrichment and clubs such as TAG, Robotics, Science Club, Quiz Bowl, Student Council, 4-H, Beta, Lions for Christ, and Student Council. We round off the middle school experience with Cheer, Dance, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track and Field for a robust experience.
GMMS is a Title 1 school, which means we receive extra funding from the federal government to help students from low-income families succeed academically. We have maintained a B rating in the state accountability system and are growing. Our mission is to provide our students with a high quality education to become life long learners. As we endeavor to achieve the academic vision, our goals are to grow our students' proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and problem solving daily. The motto to expect the best is living well at GMMS. I am very proud to have spent 17 of my 32 professional years working and teaching in the Golden Meadow community. GO LIONS!
