National Principals Month: Hennessy Melancon
To celebrate National Principals Month, we’re sharing some fun facts about our amazing school administrators. Today you’ll learn more about Mr. Hennessy Melancon, principal of Golden Meadow Middle School.
Here’s the inside scoop on Mr. Melancon:
🦁 He’s been a principal for 11 years.
🦁 He says the most rewarding part of being a principal is seeing students actively engaged in the learning process. He also enjoys seeing the smiles on families’ faces when students are rewarded for their school-based achievements.
🦁 His favorite subjects in school were chemistry and math. He was fascinated how small particles can come together, pull apart, collide, or just exist to make new substances. We live in a world dependent on some sort of chemical structure or compound. “I was able to calculate or apply math in chemistry. I almost became a chemical engineer, but my father encouraged me to teach instead of working in the oil field.”
🦁 His favorite school lunch is the GMMS potato stew with smoked sausage.
🦁 One item on his bucket list is to travel to Israel and tour the sites and places in the Bible.
🦁 Outside of work, he enjoys listening to live music, watching sports, fishing, traveling and cooking.
🦁 Fun Fact: He was named after his two grandfathers, Hennessy Colonel and Theodore Columbus and was almost named Colonel Columbus. He is also a Texan who was born in Houston. In 1991, he climbed part of the Swiss alps and carved his name in a piece of driftwood that other Nicholls students discovered.
